1) Find a dedicated space in your home:
If you have the space in your home to have a room or an area in a room to use as a place to do your yoga, that is amazing! Utilize it and create a space that is welcoming to come to, a space that is all yours and put out a few items that bring a sense of joy and ease. If you don’t have a home that has a ton of extra space to dedicate to this, you can then find a spot that is big enough and keep your mat near by. In the end it doesn’t matter where you roll out your mat, it is the intention and dedication to finding time for yourself to do something that makes you feel better, that is the point in the end, isn’t it?!
2) Have your mat rolled out or accessible:
If you have that dedicated room or area for yoga then it is best to keep the mat rolled out and ready for you whenever you are able to jump on! Or keeping your mat rolled up in a near by place where you know you will be rolling it out at a later time. Convenience is key and essential to making things happen in our busy lives, be proactive so there is one less thing to think about when the time comes to get your yoga on!
3) Schedule in a time as if you are going to a class:
This is one of the most important tips, this is where we take our health and wellness seriously. If yoga is the modality of movement that you have chosen then make sure to carve out that time in your week to show up, putting it in your calendar as an appointment helps keep you accountable.
4) Don’t allow distractions to stop you:
Do you have a busy household with pets, kids and significant others who all want attention?!We all have something that can distract us and take us away from where we really want to be but sometimes that just isn’t possible so instead of fighting against it welcome them in, pets included! Sharing this time with the people closest to you can bring great joy in other ways!
5) Find household items to support you during an online class:
Blocks and straps are the main props used in most yoga classes, but most of us do not own these at home. Get creative and grab some books, a cooking pot or cans of soup to be used in place of blocks, or how about using a scarf, tie or a towel as a strap? Other things that can be useful are pillows, blankets and even couch cushions to support you during a yoga practice.
